In Solidarity, NAPA Sorority Leadership Responds to Sexual Violence in the Greek Community

In unity, we, the leadership of NAPA sororities, stand in solidarity with survivors of sexual violence and harassment, as they begin their journey of healing by sharing their stories.

A study published in the NASPA Journal found that “women in sororities are 74 percent more likely to experience rape than other college women.” As numerous survivor stories begin to surface, it is clear that members of our NAPA community are not an exception to this statistic. We are calling for a culture shift in the Greek community, specifically within our own NAPA umbrella council. We are asking all NAPA organizations to ensure the safety of our members by establishing survivor-centered policies and protocols that address accountability and prevention measures including, but not limited to, non-retaliation and anti-harassment policies.

Regardless of Greek affiliation, our members are often in the same place at the same time and together at many functions. It is imperative we set the precedent to support each other by fostering an environment where all of our members feel safe. As organizations committed to empowering APIDA womxn, our sorority leadership commits to a joint initiative in NAPA collaborative programming efforts. Our goal is to support survivors of sexual violence and empower our members by providing prevention and intervention training.
